From the Highlands to Your Cup: This Week’s Featured Coffee from Papua New Guinea

This week at Favours, we’re proud to be pouring something truly special: a beautifully rich Papua New Guinea blend, sourced through our friends at Wolff Coffee Roasters. What makes this drop extra meaningful is the story behind it—one rooted in community, sustainability, and decades of dedication to quality.

Our current feature comes from Nowek Ltd, a family-owned coffee company based in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. Founded by Terry Shelley Snr, Nowek’s legacy began back in the 1960s through a partnership with local communities in Simbu Province. Together, they helped create the first coffee co-operative in PNG—a foundation that still supports local growers today.

What’s incredible is that 85% of PNG’s coffee comes from smallholder farmers, and coffee remains a key income source for over half of the country’s population. Nowek works closely with these farmers, ensuring they have the support and education needed to grow exceptional Arabica beans year after year.

And it doesn’t stop at coffee. In 2015, Nowek built greenhouses on their drying fields to support a coffee seedling nursery. These seedlings are distributed for free to surrounding communities and schools—planting the seeds (literally!) for a more sustainable, prosperous future.

We’re stoked to serve coffee with this kind of heart behind it.

Come in this week and try our featured PNG blend—it’s bold, vibrant, and full of the spirit of the Highlands. Trust us, you’ll taste the story in every sip.
